There is a metal vein crossing the border between south Portugal and Huelva region in Spain. This vein has been explored at least since roman times but it was during the industrialization of the XVIII and XIX century that many open sky mines were born in both countries. Most of the mining activity stoped in the last decades of the XX century leaving behind, specially in Spain, dozens of semi-desert mining villages and a landscape of enormous craters, strange debris formations and abandoned mining complex. For better or for worst this scenario is about to change, this mining territory and structures, an immense industrial and intangible heritage is about to succumb to yet another metal fever. In recent years many mines were bought by new mining corporations interested in exploring once again the old vein. Shots from Tharsis and La Zarza mines.
