Andrea, 6, wants to go to a school with a pool, a playground and a garden. She wants her classroom to have computers and air conditioning. In a school in Maracaibo, #Venezuela, children drew their ideal school and classroom. In a city where temperatures reach 36° Celsius or more, and water and electricity shortages are common, most children dream of air conditioners and gardens. We’re providing back-to-school kits to 300,000 children to reduce school dropouts and make sure children can go to school. © UNICEF/UN0344449/Prieto
How is it that in the 21st century, almost 50 million children under five still suffer from wasting? . This boy is being assessed at a clinic in Mozambique, where UNICEF helps to treat malnourished children. But it should never come to this. We must ensure every child has access to nutritious, safe and affordable food. . © UNICEF/UNI212574/Hubbard
Clarisse is holding her baby girl Julienne, 5 months, at a community screening for malnutrition in Gakenke District. "Julienne is healthy and does not have any problems," says Clarisse. "Right now I am breastfeeding, but I know that in one month I will begin feeding her complementary foods while continuing to breastfeed." Each month, Clarisse brings baby Julienne to the UNICEF-supported health centre for a nutrition screening and growth monitoring session, where community health workers also conduct cooking demonstrations and education sessions on proper nutrition. @unicefrwanda © UNICEF/UNI212732/Rudakubana
😄 Big smiles for a brighter future. Alimatou has just received micronutrient powder to help her recover from stunting in Mali. It’s good for her and good for the whole community: in countries where stunting is common, every $1 invested to prevent the condition can generate $18 of economic benefits in return. . © UNICEF/UN0342204/Keïta
This girl is enjoying a chocolate ice cream in Kyrgyzstan but each sugar hit can put a child at greater risk of becoming overweight. Today, a staggering 10 times more girls suffer from obesity than in 1975. We must take action to protect children’s health. . #ForEveryChild, nutritious food. . © UNICEF/UN0338837/Zhanibekov
How many smiling faces can you see? You wouldn’t know it now, but their school in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, was severely damaged by an earthquake and tsunami last year. @unicefindonesia helped build back better - with improved handwashing facilities, toilets and classrooms. © UNICEF/UNI206461/Wilander
Remember those exciting moments when you checked your height and found out you had grown just that little bit taller? Every child needs the right nutrition to grow up healthy yet poor diets are leaving too many children stunted. The consequences can last a lifetime but, with timely treatment, undernourished children can grow up to thrive. . © UNICEF/UN0311027/Verweij
The good news: more children are surviving. The challenge: not enough children are thriving. Nine-year-old Ali is growing up healthy in Mali by eating nutritious foods. Yet, around the world millions of children are not getting enough of the vital nutrients they need, while millions are eating too much of the harmful foods that put their health at risk. . We must ensure every child has access to a nutritious, affordable and sustainable diet. . © UNICEF/UN0342249/Keïta
Six-year-old Zuhuir is a big fan of fast food in Bangladesh. His parents know it’s a risk to the family’s health but, with so many advertisements targeting children, it can be hard to say no. . It’s time for governments everywhere to regulate the marketing of fatty and sugary foods so that children like Zuhuir can make healthier choices. . © UNICEF/UNI210858/Sujan
🍔🍟🥤 Temptations are everywhere but 10-year-old Yerzhan is determined to eat better and grow up healthy.
