The Two GuardiansThose two trees you can just see out on this point on the Oregon coast apparently have a name...The Two Guardians. It may be just the one guardian by now since the tree on the right is leaning out off the crumbling cliff at a precarious angle. On this particular morning, I was more captivated by the fascinating eroded sandstone shapes in the foreground which were illuminated and complimented by the fiery sunrise. ©2013, Canon 5D Mk3, 16 mm, polarizer, 10 seconds, f/18, ISO 100.

marcadamus That's amazing. I took almost this same image with film many years ago. Appreciate the memories! And thanks for the info too. I hadn't heard the name.

Earth Shadow Behind The MatterhornOne of our final mornings in Switzerland, @christian_heeb_photographer and I scrambled around on the cliffs above the Gorner Glacier looking for interesting vantages. I found this orange lichen and framed it to add a spot of color in the foreground.Canon 5D4, 16-35mm at 16mm, @breakthrough.photography cpl, two image focus stack, 5 seconds, f/16, ISO 100.

marcadamus Very different and interesting. The soft light shows off the many elements well.

Explosive Cape AragoBig water explosions going off back in October at that famous Oregon coast wave place. The swell came in right as the @outofchicago #outoforegon conference was ending, so many of us hustled south a couple of hours to catch the show.Taken with a Lumix S1R and Lumix s 70-200 f/4 on loan from my friend @photojoseph via @lumixusa. 70mm, 1/1000 second, f/4.5, ISO 100.

I am #WildfortheOwyhee because ... Yesterday, @ronwyden introduced legislation, co-sponsored by @senjeffmerkley, which would protect over one million acres of wonderfully wild public lands in Malheur County, including many iconic places in Oregon’s Owyhee Canyonlands. Please join me in saying thank you to Oregon's Senators. Visit ONDA.org or find link in @theoregondesert bio. #KeepItPublic #OregonHighDesert #wildernessNOW

Alpen Glow Above Gorner GlacierWe took our group out to this spot in the dark with the mission of photographing the Matterhorn, which we did. But then I noticed the strong twilight glow coming from the east over the ridge behind us. I knew it wouldn't last long, so I ran about a quarter of a mile to get into this position. At 10,000 feet above sea level that turned out to be a poor choice. I did finally manage to get my heart rate below critical levels and frame up the scene. I left the contrails in the sky because they mirrored the angles of the glacier, but maybe they should go? What do you think...keep 'em or lose 'em?Canon 5D4, 16-35mm at 16mm, Breakthrough X4 CPL. 8 Seconds, f/10, ISO 100.With @christian_heeb_photographer@breakthrough.photography

One more photo from Switzerland before I head out for the #outoforegon conference. This is obviously the Matterhorn in the distance, viewed before sunrise from above the Gorner Glacier. The peak on the left is the Breithorn. Thanks to @christian_heeb_photographer for showing us his home country. Now, on to Out of Oregon, part of the @OutOfChicago conferences. It's going to be an awesome week on the Oregon coast. Looking forward to teaching, sharing and hanging foul with a bunch of good folks. There are going to be some great instructors there, including @erinbabnikphotography, @nickpagephotography, Gavin Hardcastle, @ricksammonphotography, @f64academy, @ericparephoto and @pdavidsonphoto just to name a few.#outofchicago #newport #oregoncoast #oregon

I'm having fun editing my images from a recent photo trip to the Swiss Alps. I teamed up on this one with @christian_heeb_photographer. The tour was based almost entirely out of high mountain lodges so we could be on location during the good light hours. Our group was fortunate to marvel at several glorious sunsets and sunrises. This particular sunset, photographed from thousands of feet above the valley, was one heck of a view. Houses on the valley floor appear as small white dots. And, thanks to Europeans of past centuries going to great lengths to place churches on high points, there was even a chapel up there perched in a very precarious but photogenic position. I can only imagine the villagers mountaineering their way up for morning services each week.

Red Willow SeaIn honor of 'throwback Thursday', this is an oldie but a goodie. Every year I hope that these same birch and willow will put on a similar show, but so far no such luck. #keephoping #contrasts #winteriscoming
