I noticed this @lifespacegardens in Lower Lonsdale this morning. Urban gardening is an awesome project to feed our city and bring green space to our streets. Great initiative @mylowerlonsdale ! I will have to come back to check out the tomatoes when they’re ready 🍅🌿 #northvan

I hear you. The traffic on the North Shore is not only an inconvenience for commuters, it is also restricting our local businesses from growing and scaling up quickly. That is why today, our government is investing $250,000 in the City of North Vancouver’s initiative to analyze traffic congestion and recommend strategies to alleviate the problem. This study is only one piece of the puzzle. We will continue working hard with all levels of government to find solutions to this challenge.

Amazing to meet Ms. Mung, who came in from China on a short term visa to visit her daughter. For years she was rejected through the system, but thanks to the hard work & perseverance of my constituency office, we were able to make the reunion with her daughter possible.

When our government invests in infrastructure we are investing in our community. 🚌⛴🛣 Not only are we improving access to transit, getting more vehicles off the road, and improving commute times, but together we are also creating more good middle-class jobs. #ourplanisworking #buildingcanada #investingincanada

Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore is an ecological jewel. It supports many different important species of fish and wildlife as well as a thriving lobster fishery that generates jobs and economic opportunity in the community. Today I returned to this area with @seanfrasermp to announce that we will be hiring a new community facilitator to help identify local conservation priorities. We are committed to reset the process that has been underway in regards to a potential Marine Protected Area. We are interested in speaking with community members about the path forward. No outcome is set and we will take the time we need to get this right.

I have continuously heard concerns by fish harvesters about the relationship between seals and fish populations. Listening to these concerns, our government is stepping up and taking action to address a concern that encompasses not only Newfoundland and Labrador, but all Atlantic Canada and Quebec coasts. Today, I announced that we will establish a Task Team on Atlantic seal science. This complements activities recently announced in British Columbia to assess scientific evidence relating to population dynamics of seals and sea lions and their impact on fish populations. This new initiative will help ensure that the best available science is considered when making management decisions for seals, with the goal of sustaining a healthy aquatic ecosystems for generations to come.

The Harper Conservatives closed the Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre here in St. John’s in 2012 after 35 years of providing critical services. They also left the Atlantic headquarters building in need of modernization - without investment. This was prime example of what years of targeted Conservative cuts meant for coastal communities, for our economy, and for our environment. Our government committed to investing in our Coast Guard and in coastal communities. That commitment included reopening the Rescue Sun Centre and equipping it with the modern capabilities needed to effectively serve the citizens of this province. Today, I am here in St. John’s to say that the rebuilding of the regional headquarters is now complete. This modernization has included a reopened 24/7 regional operations centre and the search-and-rescue Sub-Centre. #PromiseMadePromiseKept #NewfoundlandAndLabrador #NL

Thousands of families in Newfoundland & Labrador depend on the fishery to support their livelihoods. That why are working closely with the Province to grow the economy & support the harvesting and processing sectors through the Atlantic Fisheries Fund.

Back in 2015, we made a commitment to protect more of our ocean space than ever before. Today – standing beside PM @justinpjtrudeau, we announced that not only did we meet this goal, but we exceeded it. Due to our sustained efforts today, nearly 14% of our oceans are protected!
