It took me 21 years to go to a National Park for the first time. Recovering from a heart attack, bored with my career at the time, and managing some toxic relationships I decided to skip the whole 21 run thing and take a two week road trip to visit a bunch of National Parks like Yellowstone, Arches, and Yosemite... And that was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Shout out Anne Frank for that quote about “nature being good for the soul” (pretty cliche, I know) and some crazy photography by @danielgreenwoodphotography that inspired me to get out of my comfort zone and undergo a paradigm shift in the way I went about my life. Going out into nature, even just a small hike or two, can change your life in a big way. It did for me. And I’m just really thankful I’ve been able to spend the better parts of the last 5 years out in an environment that is conducive for introspective thinking, challenging yourself mentally and physically, inspiring a grateful attitude, and connecting with the Universe. I’m a very imperfect person to say the least, but all this neature and adventuring has been a huge catalyst for working towards becoming a better person. I’m eternally thankful that God pushed me out of my comfort zone with some dicey life events, because it’s lead me down the path towards the best things that have ever happened to me. I don’t know very many things but what I do know from the bottom of my heart is that all the adversity and messiness in your life is there for a reason; to challenge you to become a stronger version of yourself, a version of you that’s the hero of your own story and can help others going through similar things 🙂

It’s interesting the type of reactions I get when I tell ppl who ask that I want to kick in the NFL. As you might imagine, it’s mostly “that’s unrealistic”, “but the odds!”, “what’s your back up plan?” and things of that nature. So I don’t talk about it much lol. I don’t have time to explain how I’ve played soccer at super competitive levels since I was 10. I honestly don’t know how to go about explaining why 3 years ago I choose astrophotography over pursuing D1 football. And I don’t have the energy to tell the stories about spending 1000’s of hours blasting soccer balls at the net until it was dark and I struggled walking the next day; all because of shitty college coaches, being upset with myself for not producing the grades I needed to transfer to a better school & team, or just wanting to blow off steam cuz I was frustrated with personal stuff. And I don’t really possess within me the words to articulate the belief that the massive amounts of failures and personal shortcomings in my life have uniquely prepared me to be exceptional at a few select things. Creating space art and blasting clanger mcbangers into orbit with the ham cannons. Or, kicking balls, for those of you who don’t speak stupid idiot (I‘m fluent). I was born to do this. And other than an Instagram update letting y’all know what I’ve been working towards since retiring as a professional astrophotographer, I’m just going to keep putting in the work and ultimately let my actions do the talking 🙏 Here’s a lil 53 yarder with enough mustard to go much further 😉

Your thoughts manifest into action, and your actions shape reality; SO WHAT YOU THINK IS THE REALEST THING ABOUT YOU. Your thoughts manifest, both consciously and subconsciously, into reality, whether you want them to or not. Your thoughts guide your hands, and your hands help build your life. Be careful what you think about yourself. If you think you’re a loser and not good enough for the things you desire, then you will express that with your actions and you will build failure. If you expect that mentally, your body will follow physically. However, if you think you’re awesome and have the potential to do great things here, then you give yourself, even sometimes just subconsciously (which is enough), the validation to start building greatness with your hands. Sometimes we have all the pieces around us to build something great with our hands, but our minds won’t allow us because we’re stuck thinking we deserve less or can’t build anything great- which is the furthest thing from the truth! Everything starts with your mind. The mental always comes first, and follows physically in expression. If you can spark positive thoughts in your mind (which controls your body on a vast spectrum of conscious and primordial levels) your body can manifest those positive ideas into the world. Even if the world around you seems negative. And you have no idea how capable you are at doing that because the most honest dreams you can conceptualize for yourself and the world around you are just the tip of the iceberg. Even the most subtle thoughts can have grand consequences. What you think is the realest thing about you. Be careful how you think about yourself.

Every day is an opportunity to choose to aim higher, move a step closer, and climb bravely towards your purpose in life, your “why”. But your purpose here may not even be fully revealed to you yet. And that’s okay. Because in the meantime we can all find immense purpose in striving to become the best versions of ourselves, so that when our “why” is finally revealed to us, we will be ready. It takes a lot of faith to not give up and keep working even when you’re not sure what all of this is for or if it will mean anything in the end. But as a byproduct of that; just know that the more you help yourself overcome the inevitable hardships that come as a obligatory condition of life, the more you grow your ability to help others overcome and make it through similar things. And sometimes I don’t think there can be any greater purpose than that! We’ll see. Every day is an opportunity to become a stronger version of yourself!! And you just neeeeever know what sort of beautiful things can be revealed to you if you have faith in your God given potential “he who has a why can bear any how” 😊🙌
