Sometimes getting a shot is nothing more than being willing to suffer more than the next guy! Take this photo as an example. I took it a few years ago when spring was coming to the high country of Yosemite. The warm days would give away to freezing cold nights, and that combination led me to a little bit of suffering in the name of photography.
During the day the warm temperatures would soften the knee-deep snow on the ground, causing my pants and shoes to easily get soaked. When the night fell, the temperatures would drop into the single digits, causing my pants, socks and shoes to freeze solid. Trying to thaw them out in the morning in order to put them on was like putting on a pair of cardboard pants! That is how stiff they were. It was cold and frustrating work. At times, to be honest with you, this trip was not all that much fun. Still, in the moments when the light hit and illuminated the landscape perfectly, those minor sufferings were all forgotten with the click of a shutter.
