Lets talk about digestion and something that isn’t spoken very much but can be important to some people. Especially around post workout nutrition. Now we know we are what we eat but if only it was that simple... right?Instead we can look at it as “we are what we digest, assimilate and excrete” – now that sounds a bit more technical but what does this have to with nutrition post workout. We know that the stomach is a main site for both mechanical (churning of food to make chyme) and chemical (use of enzymes and hydrochloric acid) digestion particularly for protein as we have an enzyme called pepsin which is found in the chief cells in your stomach. Now reason we need to know this is what is the most commonly consumed food item – that’s right whey protein powder for those gainzz. Few things effect the concentration of hydrochloric acid which can in turn affect your enzyme production for protein breakdown – Stress, use of certain medication such as PPIs, Age, and some bacterial infections such as H.Plyori So lets work on the one that is the easiest to manage stress. Before you slam down that protein shake, check your heart rate as this can indicate whether you are in a parasympathetic state (rest and digest) or sympathetic state (fight or flight). Below is some ranges and strategies to use before eating to help optimize your digestion post training.75bpm or higher – aim for 5 to 10 minutes of diaphragm breathing70-75bpm – guided meditation 65-70bpm – eat in a relaxed state65bpm or less – eat as normal.

🍲🥫Tomato Black Bean Stew! 🥫🍲 Omg guys! This is beyond good! Lunch for the week right here! I purposefully left out protein in this so I could add whatever (shredded chicken) amount I need throughout the week. I seasoned this with only salt, pepper, and @mccormickspice Rotisserie Chicken Seasoning. And omg. Someone buy me a restaurant and call me a chef! 😘👌🏼 Directions: throw everything in a crockpot and cook until carrots are tender. Mine cooked on high for 3 hours and then low for 3 hours. Ah! So good!

When I’m in a deficit, every calorie counts and you better believe I’m counting every calorie..So finding ways to fit in food that I enjoy and that fits my plan can take a little creativity..Now I LOVE nachos, but not all tortilla chips are equal, and most are not very deficit friendly....So... I made my own..Cut up corn tortillas baked in the air fryer not only crisp up and taste awesome, but they save me a TON of calories compared to their store bought companions..Win/win..Pro-tip two is the ole Greek yogurt instead of sour cream swap, but honestly that’s an every day thing in this house diet or not cause Protonz!.The real MVP of the dish... that Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper... Might be giving Diet Cherry Pepsi a run for the money these days. 😂.Measure. Manage. ‘Tis the season🎄...for GAINS!! Working on getting my weight up on the bar and adding in those calories throughout the day! Trying to especially put some extra muscle on my lower body, so obviously squats 🍑 are a MUST. (I was doing 4x8 here.) And then for a post-workout meal (after my protein shake and banana) I whipped up some ground bison, potatoes and green beans. **You have to feed the muscle to gain the muscle** I’m shooting for around 1750 calories right now. Let’s get these GAINZZZZ!! ✨ Thank you to @thestrongwai for hooking me up with a brutal lower body workout!

chrisbirdfit Get it! 👊🏼💪🏼

What's in season?.There’s something about eating produce when it is in it’s peak season that makes it that much more fresh and tasty. What’s even better is that farmer’s markets and local grocery stores offer in-season foods that were grown close to home, which may increase the amount of nutrients you get from these foods and the price of these foods may be lower (both due to decreased travel time). .The produce in season for November in Colorado include the following:.ApplesArugula, radishes, turnipsBeetsCabbageCarrotsKale, collard greens, spinachCucumbersWinter Squash. What seasonal produce will you be enjoying in November? CarbohydratesMy opinion on... Carbohydrates. The macronutrient everybody talks about. You are either afraid of them and tend to avoid them or you over eat the wrong sources. Carbohydrates are a vital macronutrient in any nutritional plan as they are involved in numerous biochemical processes in the body and are used as fuel. The right sources of carbohydrates are needed to ensure your body can perform optimally and achieve your goals. So, limit the cakes, breads and sweets and start to introduce more complex carbohydrates like brown rice, sweet potato and pumpkin into your nutritional plan. These complex carbohydrate sources will provide your body with fibre (lowers cholesterol and controls spikes in blood glucose) and vitamins and minerals (needed for optimal health) it needs to function optimally.Total carbohydrate intakeI base my clients carbohydrate intake on these 5 factors:1. What is their fitness goal?2. Current body fat percentage3. What phase of programming are they currently in4. Did they earn them?5. Body type. What is their fitness goal? Are they looking to lose fat or increase muscle? If they are looking to lose fat I may put them on a lower carbohydrate intake than someone who’s looking to build muscle. I tend to find that clients looking to lose body fat will often be eating a higher carbohydrate diet (full of processed food and sugar) and find results when they switch to a higher percentage intake of fat. If they are looking to build muscle then I will gear their intake towards carbohydrates. What is their current body fat percentage?A person with a higher body fat percentage will tend to transport the excess glucose (not used for energy) and store it as fat cells (after converting it to fat) as opposed to a leaner person who will transport it to their muscles and spare their protein.Another general rule of mine is the leaner the client is the more carbohydrates they will consume. .*Continued in comments*.#coachcav #igotyou
