Happy International Mountain Day! The theme this year is "mountains matter for youth". I don't honestly know where I'd be today if I hadn't discovered the transformative power found in the mountain world as an 18 year old kid. Spending time in mountains literally changed my life's direction and helped to inform many life choices I made over the past 25 years. Mount Rainier in particular has always been a place of personal significance for me. It was the lure of Rainier which drew me to relocate to the Pacific Northwest in the late 90's. I've visited countless times over the years, explored much of the park, climbed to it's icy crown a handful of times, and made the hundred mile trek around its base. Rainier is even the place where my wife and I first connected. So it's only fitting I post this image from a short but sweet solo trip this past summer.
