Did you know that there are multiple types of depression? Most of the time we're referring to major depressive disorder (MDD). One you probably didn't even know about is called dysthymia - also known as Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD). This is when you have constant depression. All day, every day. MDD can suffer from bouts of depression every now and then (or a bit more often), but for someone who has PDD - there is no escape. There's no episode that will end or a period of time where you'll feel better. You carry depression around with you like a weight tied to your heart. You know and sadly accept that this is your life now. That you're probably always going to feel this way. Every day - for the rest of your life. ..Some of us (like me) gave both types of depression. What does that mean? It's when you have the symptoms of depression all day - every day - of your life. You'll have times when the major depression kicks in and it's so bad you can't take it. And during these times of intense depression, you know that the extreme part will fade eventually but you're still going to have the persistent depression afterwards. Until something major hits again- whether it's a major depressive episode or extreme anxiety. (Lucky us!)...There's still a lot of misconception out there about mental illness - including depression. No - it's NOT just feeling sad all the time. And NO we can't just think happy thoughts or do something we enjoy to make it go away. There's so much more to it that most people don't understand or know. Depression is when you feel so hopeless and useless that you can't even get out of bed in the morning. It's when things you used to love doing - like reading for me - holds no appeal. You feel restless but at the same time you have absolutely no energy. Like this image says is all completely true and describes depression in much better ways than I ever could. I feel so tired. I've been doing so much that I actually can't manage to fit it all in to one day, between college, homework, reading and whatever else is going on that day, I can't manage it all, even though I want to. College is good, some assignments are a bit overwhelming but I'm coping well. I have OT tomorrow, which I can't wait for because my intrusive thoughts are just annoying the crap out of me. Have other minor issues but my ocd symptoms are my biggest problem right now. Finally mastered Web Design and still suck at Stained Glass lol. Have DBT next week so I'll miss that class anyway. Have to do a portfolio for moving onto an art college in the future and two others for other subjects, that's what's overwhelming me the most.
