Sydney is always ranked as one of the best cities in the world in terms of standard of living. I can’t really argue with that.
In addition to being a great place to live, it is also a great place to visit. For most visitors to Australia, Sydney will be the first stop in their visit as it has the largest airport in the country.
Any visit to Sydney will start in the harbor, where you can find two of the most well known attractions in Australia: The Sydney Opera House and the Harbor Bridge.
Despite being built less than 50 years ago, the Opera House is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has become the symbol for the city.
Not far from the opera house is the Sydney Harbor Bridge. It is one of the largest steel arch bridges in the world and it is possible to do a bridge walk that takes you to the top of the bridge.
Another great attraction that few people know about is Cockatoo Island, which is located in the harbor. It is a former prison and shipyard, which today is one of the only places you can camp in the middle of Sydney. You can easily get there by ferry.
Manly beach is one of the most best beaches in Sydney and is a popular surfing location.
Sydney is also the location of the biggest fireworks show in the world every New Year’s Eve. I was there for it in 2014 and I had to wait for most of the day to get a good seat.
