Our detailed proposals, approved at a select Southwark Council Planning Committee, accommodate 100% affordable homes arranged as a deck typology wrapping an open courtyard, with 100% dual and triple aspect apartments. The Canada Water Masterplan, is an ambitious and transformative project. The Masterplan (designed by @alliesandmorrison ) integrates a new network of pedestrian focused streets, parks, squares and open spaces with the surrounding community and animates these public spaces with a wide range of activities. This includes workspaces and dwellings, new cafés, restaurants and shops. The façades of our housing building have been designed to respond closely to the adjacent park, the wider context and the rich history of the site. The composition of the façades is the result of a rigorous analysis of proportions and internal spatial requirements. Careful detailing is used strategically to articulate and break down the massing. Through considered sampling and selection the inherent textural quality found in brick construction will echo character traits of the industrial ancestors of this area. Two differentiated brick colours have been proposed to distinguish between the exterior and courtyard façades, coupled with exploration in depth and reveal, recesses and layering, along with variety of the mortar tone to achieve subtle variations. These express zones in the façade, such as to window surrounds, the building base and it’s top.
